What is Bhakti? The Path of Loving Devotion

First Bloom 🌸

There is a longing that lives inside every human heart.
Not the longing for money, Not for fame, Not even for peace though peace is beautiful.
It is a deeper longing. A longing to belong not to a person, not to a place, but to something vast, something eternal, something that will never leave you.
That longing… is the seed of Bhakti.

Let’s Understand Bhakti

The word Bhakti comes from the Sanskrit root “bhaj” which means to serve, to love, to be devoted to.
But Bhakti is not a religious duty. It is not a ritual you perform because you must. It is not the chanting of a mantra out of fear or obligation.
Bhakti is love. Pure, unconditional, overflowing love directed toward the Divine,
The great sage Narada, in his Narada Bhakti Sutras, describes Bhakti simply: “Sā tv asmin parama-prema-rūpā” “True bhakti is activity not covered by any selfish desire and done with the exclusive intention to please God.”
That’s it. That is the whole secret. Love — not as an emotion that comes and goes, but as a state of being. A way of living.

Bhakti is Not a Religion. It is a Relationship.

Think about the people you love most in this world.
Do you love them because of a rule? Because someone told you that you must? No. You love them because something in your heart simply opens when you think of them. Their name brings a smile. Their memory brings warmth.
Bhakti is exactly this — but directed toward the Supreme.
Lord Krishna describes this beautifully in the Bhagavad Gita:
“man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru” “Always think of Me, become My devotee, worship Me, bow down to Me.” — Bhagavad Gita 9.34
He does not say, “Fear Me.” He does not say, “Obey Me.”
He says: Think of Me. Come to Me. Be Mine.
That is the voice of a beloved, not a commander.
If you have ever heard a kirtan and felt tears come without knowing why — that is Bhakti calling your name.

The Bloom Begins Here🌸

At BhaktiBloom, we believe that devotion is not something you find at the end of a long spiritual journey.
It is the beginning of the journey. You don’t have to be perfect to practice Bhakti. You just have to be sincere. Welcome to BhaktiBloom. May your heart bloom in devotion, one petal at a time.
Hare Krishna🙇‍♂️
